Enter Recovery Mode

This recovery mode does not use any recovery discs. Like most laptops, desktops and netbooks these days, this one has a recovery partition, which reinstalls Windows a-fresh. This will remove all of your data and programs you have installed since the netbook was new.

  • From a cold start (off) power the unit ON and constantly tap F9
  • The screen will change and the netbook will load the following menu -
  • Obviously, select "Recover Your Computer" from the list using enter. The system will then ask you to confirm your choice. Twice.

The recovery procedure will now run. Do not do anything to the netbook whilst it is running. Ensure it has constant mains power. Failure of total power could cause a disc corruption and cause a bigger headache.

Setup Windows

Once the recovery has completed (which usually takes around 30minutes) the netbook will restart and present you with the familiar (to some) Windows 7 setup screen.

  • From here, select the language when prompted.
  • Then fill in the rest of the details, including your username, desired password (leave blank for none), and importantly your timezone.

Done!

That's it, that's all there is to it. But don't forget, you now need to download and install all the latest Windows Updates, and then install your software.

For help with transferring iTunes (if you dare use iTunes on this dismally slow netbook) have a look at this article I wrote recently.
